Event 1: Avoiding Aces

$350 + $50 Deep Stack NL (Re-Entry)

Shanah, Betlow & Boyd Kicking Off the Action

Jordan Shanah (Lindenhurst, NY) did something his Long Island mentor Eric "Pools" Siegel could never do, lay down AK preflop three handed.

There's heavy action between Shanah and poker veteran James Boyd (Martinsburg, WV), on the first hand of the day. Shanah eventually folds and shows big slick, much to the chagrin of Boyd who has pocket aces.

"I can't believe he laid it down," says Boyd, who won the 2010 Borgata Spring Open Seniors Event."

"It was easy," quips Shanah, "he practically jumped out of his seat."

Impressive lay down considering Ed Betlow (Morris Plains, NJ) is the only other player at the table, while Siegel, a Borgata regular is skipping the opener, but will be on hand this weekend.

Level 1 (25/50) is winding down.
