Event 13 Recap

$500 + $60 Seven Card Stud

Congratulations to Edward Betlow (what a great poker name) who is the ultimate Borgata Stud. He takes home $3,274 along with the 2011 Borgata Summer Poker Open Event 13 trophy, and of course bragging rights as the greatest Stud player around.

The field put up $500 Buy-In + $60 Entry and took their seats at high noon with 12,000 starting chips

Big Stack PLO Champion (Event 10/$11,051) "Grandpa" Jay Zimmet (Manalapan, NJ) was in the field, as was Rathe Miller (Philadelphia, PA), the 2nd place finisher ($6,722) in Event 4, Omaha H/L 8B.

Everyone seems to like the blind structures where levels 1-8 last thirty minutes but level 9 on up lasts 40. This gives the players more of a chance to play poker.

Other star "studded" players include Glenn Englebert (Erial, NJ) who won the H.O.S.E tournament ($9,625) early Sunday morning and the Limit Event in January's Borgata Winter Poker Open where he took home $7,000 for his first place finish. Today he went for the three titles in three different events hat-trick but just fell short with third place for $1,091.

William Buckley busted out in fifth place for $364. He was happy with his tournament and that his hands held up at the right time, taking down key pots.

Fourth place money of $728 was award to Wilton Franklin Brown. When you get this close to the top three you can smell victory but alas it wasn’t meant to be for Brown.

Heads up honors went to Edward Betlow (Morris Plains, NJ) and Dave Cardenas (Ventnor, NJ) who went back and forth ten hands trading pots and chips until Cardenas fell and Betlow emerged as the winner.

“I made my moves at the end” declared Edward who cashed in the Borgata Stud Event last year and came close in the H.O.S.E. last week. When Edward is not playing poker he is installing telephone systems by profession.

Thanks to all the die-hard Stud players who truly love this game and turned out to support this event.

Some say 13 is an unlucky number but 2011 Borgata Summer Poker Open Event 13 shone much luck on our champion, Edward Betlow. Congratulations again!
